All Aboard…Iron Horse stops at the Riverside Hotel for a Unique Winemaker Dinner

The Riverside Hotel and Chef Toby Joseph Present LAS OLAS WINE & FOOD FESTIVAL Winemaker’s Dinner
Featuring Joy Sterling of Iron Horse Vineyards

Joy Sterling hosts Winemaker dinner with Chef Toby Joseph

Friday, May 14, 2010 at 7:00 pm

Iron Horse is one of Sonoma County’s most prestigious, small, independent, estate, family owned wineries located in cool, foggy Green Valley. The name Iron Horse came from a train that stopped at Ross Station at the turn of the 20th Century. The logo, the rampant horse on a weathervane, came from an actual weathervane that was unearthed when they were leveling the ground to build the winery.

I am looking forward to enjoying this amazing dinner with friends.

Riverwalk Trust’s Urban Market

Join us at Esplanade Park on the New River

One of the initiatives Riverwalk Trust undertook during their Transition was an Annual Event Permit. I am proud to share credit for this “first ever” annual permit with Genia Duncan Ellis and Courtney Crush, who conceived, planned, prodded, pushed and promoted the Trust through this new partnership with the City of Fort Lauderdale.

Riverwalk Trust received permission from the Fort Lauderdale City Commission to launch a pilot program that will bring year-round activity and events to our downtown along the Riverwalk Park.  They will execute an annual event agreement with the City, rather than approaching the City Commission with each individual event in Riverwalk Park.  It is an “umbrella” approach —  providing a new way to plan, activate and manage annual programs in the public right-of-way and on City land.

EVERY SATURDAY, beginning April 24 from 8am to 1pmRiverwalk Trust will sponsor an Urban Market on Saturdays at Esplanade Park along the New River from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market will feature fruit and vegetables, baked items, seafood, cheeses, pottery and other goodies. The goal for providing the market is to activate the Riverwalk and to provide a service to the downtown and surrounding neighborhood residents.

Many unique and unusual products will be available at the market, including organic produce, an heirloom tomato producer, seafood vendor, organic soaps, spices, sauces, pastries, specialty fruit drinks, specialty coffee vendors, organic granola, jams, jellies, olive oils and spices, olive mixes, pastas, pasta sauces, mozzarella and oils, breads, doughnut muffins and special coffee, orchids, herbs, Peruvian food, guacamole and organic healing herbs. More than two dozen vendors have signed up for the market:

  • Robbie Bell – Speckled Dog Pottery
  • JC’s Ceviche and Salads
  • Carrie Stephens – Captain Redbeards Sauces
  • Jodi Swank – Hydro/Natural Produce – Swank Specialty Produce

Winterfest will celebrate 40 Years with a new Cook Book & Libations project!

It’s May, celebrate spring and what better way than with two of my favorite margaritas…Prickly Pear & Fresh Lime. That got me thinking about an upcoming project that I am chairing for the Winterfest Board.  We will document Winterfest’s culinary history by bringing together all the great appetizers, dinners and desserts served through the years at all of those amazing Boat Parade parties.  We will be recruiting local chefs and mixologists to help develop and match the food with signature drinks!  Watch for more details and where to send your favorite recipes.
