A Time for Remembering, The 2008 Tiara Ball

“A Time for Remembering” The Royal Dames Past, Present & Future
A Celebration of their membership & contributions to cancer research from 1969 to present

Janet Davis and Robin Hirschman, Royal Dames and 2007 Tiara Ball Chairs, contacted Renee Quinn in February of 2008 and asked her to consider chairing the next Tiara Ball.  With founding member and past President Lorraine Thomas set to be the Ruby Tiara Sponsor, she accepted the challenge.

The history of the Royal Dames was the unique story Renee chose to focus on.  She then called on her “Dream Team” to help make this an event to remember. Bill Stanton, Shai Zelering and Scott Schaefer at The Hyatt Pier Sixty Six, Doug Jones at Sixth Star Entertainment, Bob Drinon and Joe Marotta at Premier  Beverage (along with Bacardi & Brown Forman Alliance partners) signed up for the challenge. Kevin Lane coordinated the PR and Go Riverwalk magazine was the official media sponsor.

On Saturday, November 22, 2008, Renee and her Dream Team presented The 39th Annual Tiara Ball.  Guests were greeted with strolling violinists and a receiving line of past Presidents, Ball Chairs & Royal Dames.  Ball Chair Renee Quinn transported guests back to ’69, for a unique  experience that started in the Circa 69 Lounge featuring a  Grey Goose themed Cocktail Bar and the signature Tiara-tini.  “Ultra Lounge” music and the Royal Reception set the mood for an amazing evening.

The doors opened to the elegant Crystal Ballroom Supper Club for  a surf & turf themed dinner paired with wines and cocktails. The evening celebrated the founding members and the present Royal Dames. They saluted their achievements over the years as displayed on Royal Dames Information Cards, Photo Cubes and other memories.  Past Tiara Ball Chairs were honored through former invitations displayed throughout the event.  Achievements in cancer research over the past 40 years were highlighted in creative cards on all the tables. VIP guests and sponsors enjoyed their own wait staff, mini bar sets on their tables and table gifts including both full size and miniature Grey Goose Bottles, Dewar’s Signature Scotch and Banfi’s Rosa Regale.  The Supper Club featured two Grey Goose Lounges with sixty’s styled silver leather couches and colored orbs.  All guests enjoyed complimentary valet parking, miniature Grey Goose bottles and a the signature  Tiara Ball Journal.

The evening heated up as the Dames moved to the sounds of the seventies to celebrate Tiara Night Fever.  Performances included The Edge Band and special celebrity guest singer Harmik as Tom Jones.  An Over the Top After Party awaited late night guests at the Pier Top’s revolving lounge.  Overlooking beautiful Fort Lauderdale, guests enjoyed  unique aperitifs paired with cupcakes, bourbon cotton candy, gourmet popcorn and an espresso station.

The Hyatt Pier Sixty Six offered a special Tiara weekend package for the Royal Dames.  On Sunday, guests joined together for a Pier Top Royal Champagne Brunch.  This indulgent experience included Blood Orange Mimosas, Grey Goose Bloody Marys and a  lavish buffet, family-style offerings and amazing desserts.   Proceeds for the evening benefited the Rumbaugh-Goodwin Institute at Nova Southeastern University.

Impressions of Florida

Bonnet House Museum & Gardens’ “Impressions of Florida”

10th Annual Juried Art Exhibit & Fundraiser

Bill Stanton, Managing Director of LXR Luxury Resorts & Hotels in Fort Lauderdale, contacted Renée Quinn in the fall of 2009 to add her unique talents to one of his favorite charities’,  The Bonnet House, signature fund raising event.   “Impressions of Florida” , the annual juried art exhibition and fundraiser to benefit the public programs of Bonnet House was celebrating its 10th year and Bill wanted to add a new spin to the event.  Without hesitation, Renee agreed to co-chair the event with Bonnet House Board Member Arthur Crispino.

On  Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 6:00 pm the exhibition opened with a private showing for VIP guests at 5:30 pm. They were treated to a signature drink and hors d’oeuvres, previewed the exhibition, and experienced a rare viewing of the exclusive private living quarters of Evelyn and Fredric Bartlett, Bonnet House’s former owners.  The theme, inspired by the cool casualness of Tommy Bahama,  featured  cocktails with rangpur limes—the signature ingredient of the Bartletts’ house cocktail. Additional highlights of the evening included  unique tapas and food stations, wine and spirits with live entertainment throughout the house presented by the Hyatt Pier Sixty Six’s 360˚ CateringThe GClub at Riverwalk Trust and Go Riverwalk magazine hosted a new Edible Art Dessert Competition, created by Renee for the event.

The juried art exhibit, presented by LXR Luxury Resorts & Hotels, showcased artists from throughout the state and the artists’ personal interpretations of “Florida.” All guests and participating artists were invited to cast votes for their favorite artist in the exhibition. The artist receiving the highest number of votes received the coveted People’s Choice Award .  Winners of the Edible Art competition were featured in Go Riverwalk magazine’s Wine & Food issue, May 2010.

The 10th annual Bonnet House Museum & Gardens’ “Impressions of Florida” sold out and raised the most money to date for this Bonnet House signature event.

The GClub at Riverwalk Trust

MOTIVATE~PARTICIPATE~ACTIVATE

After successfully chairing the Riverwalk Trust from 2004-2006, Renée Quinn decided to develop a legacy project  that would make both a visual and tangible impact on the heart of Fort Lauderdale’s downtown, the Riverwalk Park. By bringing together Riverwalk Trust’s past chairs and Tribute honorees with community leaders and residents, she believed it was possible to tap into years of experience and commitment. “After all, it’s everyone’s responsibility to give back to Fort Lauderdale’s ‘Central Park’ that we call Riverwalk” says Quinn.

In the fall of 2008, Riverwalk Trust announced the launch of their new membership level, The GClub at Riverwalk Trust. Dedicated to the greening of the Riverwalk Park and the creation of a more sustainable, more grounded downtown lifestyle, The GClub will serve as the launch pad for an on-going series of projects.

The inaugural project of the The GClub at Riverwalk Trust is the installation of decorative potted planters throughout the park, spilling over with lush, tropical flowers and trees. A matching grant for $22,500 was secured for the project through the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Business Capital Improvement Program. “The installation of the pots is a way to beautify the Riverwalk and enhance the pedestrian experience of visitors to the park,” said Ginny Miller, Co-Chair of the GClub. Another benefit of the project is serving as a visual cue to the community that there is a vested group caring for the park.

On Saturday, February 13th,  2010, 110 Volunteers including Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler, City Commissioner Bobby DuBose, Genia Duncan Ellis and the CVC – Citizen Volunteer Corps, Leadership Broward Class XXVIII and Riverwalk Trust members completed the planting process in record time. Renée and her team were able to raise over $50,000 from GClub members, supporters and companies: The Riverwalk Trust Board of Directors, Bob Dugan and EDSA, Andrew Lester and The Continental Group, Ginny & Tom Miller with Miller Construction, Joe Marotta with Premier Beverage, Renée Quinn with QuinnProQuo, Genia Duncan Ellis with Ellis Consulting, Ken & Terri Ortner, Pat & Jim Demos, Lee Sheffield, Gary & Monica Correll, Bob & Susan Drinon,  Terry Stiles, and The Huizenga Foundation.

As part of this program, GClub members will also have an opportunity to “Adopt-A-Pot” along Riverwalk Park.  Renée and co-chairs Ginny Miller and Joe Marotta plan to create events for the group that will include membership gatherings, exclusive wine dinners for GClub Trustees and a GClub signature event planned for 2011.

“Summer TEAse” a GClubR Happy Hour Tea Party

In the spring of 2009, Gina Jackson, Marketing Director of the Fort Lauderdale History Center, approached Renée Quinn for help in raising awareness and dollars.   The result was Not Your Traditional Tea Party.

On Friday, July 17, 2009 from 4pm to 7pm at the New River Inn, the  Fort Lauderdale History Center and the GClub at Riverwalk Trust hosted a Happy Hour Tea Party. Guests enjoyed traditional tea and treats, wine sprizters, mar-TEA-ni’s, toasted coconut coladas,  chocolates, salt water taffy, raffle prizes and more!

Set with GClub’s beautiful pink parasols, pink roses in teapots and pink & white linens…the room glowed.  Both indoor and outdoor seating provided a cool break from the summer heat.  Island City Bistro provided a variety of fresh brewed iced and hot teas…and Kilwin’s blended their favorite toasted coconut  ice cream with Bacardi Dark Rum.  Finlandia Vodka served an orange blossom mar-TEA-ni and there was a long island style iced tea on the rocks!

The GClub, created by Renée Quinn, is Riverwalk Trust’s new membership level that was developed to provide dedicated dollars to the Riverwalk Park & Marina.  Renée connected GClub Partners to create this unique event: Premier Beverage, The Narrative Events, Island City Bistro, Kilwins Las Olas and Himmarshee Bar & Grill,  We thank them for helping GClub fun-raise for one of our favorite Riverwalk Park  partners  –  The Fort Lauderdale History Center…  Go GClub, Go Riverwalk, Go Giving.

Press Coverage was provided by Sun Sentinel’s  Society Scene (Cover and feature story)  and Riverwalk Trust’s Go Riverwalk magazine.

The result:  Fun, awareness, park activation and more dollars raised than ever before at a summer event for the History Center!

Summer TEAse Team:  Renée Quinn for QuinnProQuo, Viviane Morrison for the Narrative Events, Sue Molnar for the City of Fort Lauderdale and Gina Jackson for the Fort Lauderdale History Center.

Watch while we develop QPQ

Enjoying Get Downtown with friends Ken & Terri Ortner and Gary & Kathryn Rudolf

I originally conceived this idea when several friends advised that “Banker” did not really describe what I was about. I took that to heart and about a year ago decided to join forces with my husband to create something. While pondering…I volunteered my time as Transition Chair at Riverwalk Trust. This turned into an interim Pres/CEO role, one that sharpened my skills at examining this not for profit and applying business planning principles to maintain and move it forward.

Mike developed the name, a spin on my connecting and bartering skills.  I came up with the tag line (being known for thinking out of the box—a right brain trained to be a left brain!) Conceive .Connect .Create with a Passion for making things happen was born.

Our QuinnProQuo site is in process…so watch as it develops.  We decided to let everyone see this website as we get it ” ready to launch”.  My blog…called “Passions” follows my business, connectivity, community and advocacy. We are excited to step out and make it happen! Thanks for tuning in. RKQ

Sonoma and Fort Lauderdale

Picture of Renee at Korbel in Russian RiverI recently spent time in Sonoma, California, to see my father and get some much needed R&R. Coming up in May is GoRiverwalk’s Wine & Food issue, so I thought I would share some observations. Other than the cool weather (and no humidity), I found that our Fort Lauderdale area can offer up some of the best food and wine, just like we found in Sonoma.

Overall, we enjoyed Sonoma’s laid back charm and realized that it reminded us of home (Fort Lauderdale). The people were warm, friendly and ready to offer advice. The town square had unique shops and café style restaurants like our own Las Olas Boulevard. In the end, I’ll take the scenic beach drive over the rural, farm landscape. Although born in Monterey, Calif., I was raised in South Florida and am proud to call Fort Lauderdale my home.

The Lone Sailor

A picture of The Lone Sailor statueThe Lone Sailor

There is a lot of naval history in this area, especially from the World War II era where pilots, including former President George Bush, trained at the old Fort Lauderdale Naval Air Station. In 2006, The Fort Lauderdale Council of the US Navy League raised funds to donate a patriotic statue to our Riverwalk Park. QuinnProQuo was proud to be a part of the team that helped bring this vision to a reality!

The Lone Sailor patriotic statue expresses appreciation to the men and women all across the globe for voluntarily putting their lives at risk to protect freedom. The statue is meant to inspire youth and honor veterans, as it represents core values of honor, courage and commitment.

It is located at the Riverwalk, west of Esplanade Park, near the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Visit www.flnavyleague.org/LoneSailor.htm for more information.
