Register now to attend Lipstick Lounge at the W Fort Lauderdale Hotel

On October 7th, Tammy Gail and Glam-A-THON’s sassy fashions team with cocktails, cosmetics and confections at the 2nd Annual Lipstick Lounge at the W Fort Lauderdale Hotel

Fort Lauderdale’s most fabulous divas will preview over-the-top designs from the rising stars of the Art Institute’s fashion design program along with fashions from cutting edge local retailers. The Lipstick Lounge christens Fort Lauderdale as fashion Mecca of the South.

The $35 event admission fee will treat attendees to:

  • Two signature Lipstick Lounge cocktails
  • Sinful tastings from the W Fort Lauderdale Hotel
  • Mouthwatering morsels to tempt your taste buds from Publix Apron’s Chefs
  • Lipstick Lounge Sweet Spot – Insanely yummy confections including designer donuts from Miami’s own Mandarin Gourmet Donut Shoppe, Truffles from ‘Screw the Diet’, and heavenly samples from Cold Stone Creamery are just a few of the temptations to be featured.

You can get your ‘do-done’ by the creative teams at Lyn Anthony Salon and Salon Santiago. Or try your hand at the Glam Eyelash Bar! The party wouldn’t be complete without cosmetics – so celebrity and international makeup artist, Pierre Pope (who has dazzled faces like Oprah, Patti LaBelle and Anita Baker ), will be creating cosmetic history during the soiree. There will be so much to do, see, sip and savor your head will simply spin.

We realize that no glam girl worth her Manolos would even consider a party without great swag – so we’ll tease you with swag to beautify and amaze from many local businesses including the Bliss Spa at the W Fort Lauderdale Hotel. Two hours of hardcore cosmetics, cocktails and confections. Bring it, sistah. Cash bar will be available.

This event is Limited so reserve tickets now.
$35 registration online by October 1st
$45 after October 1st
All Lipstick Lounge guests receive reduced parking of $7.50
Proceeds will benefit University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Center.

Happy Birthday Fort Lauderdale!

Happy Birthday Fort Lauderdale!

The City of Fort Lauderdale will turn 100 in 2011! To mark this momentous occasion, the City Commission established a Centennial Celebration Committee. This volunteer committee is in the process of planning events and projects to celebrate Fort Lauderdale’s past, present and future in 2011.

About the Centennial Celebration Committee

Chaired by former Mayor and U.S. Congressman E. Clay Shaw, the Centennial Celebration Committee is comprised of 21 Fort Lauderdale residents with ties to the local business, historical, educational and cultural communities. Committee members will draw on their diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise to plan an inclusive commemoration that appeals to residents, businesses and visitors.

In planning for this momentous historic milestone, the Centennial Celebration Committee has been gathering input from residents, businesses and local organizations to create a celebration that pays tribute to Fort Lauderdale’s past, present and future. The Committee is in the process of finalizing their recommendations to the City Commission for a yearlong celebration of citywide events and activities. The Committee plans to present its final recommendations to the City Commission later this year.

The Centennial Celebration will showcase Fort Lauderdale’s rich cultural heritage through a series of exciting events and educational programs. The Committee is compiling a list of residents that made the most significant contributions to Fort Lauderdale and they are asking for suggestions from the public. The nominees can be from any period of Fort Lauderdale’s history.

Centennial Events

Plan to celebrate the Centennial with us! The City will host several free events throughout the year to commemorate Fort Lauderdale’s 100th Birthday. The City will also partner with local organizations to sanction other events around town. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward present Déjà Vu Homecoming!

Can you remember your Homecoming? Were you a brain, a jock, a band geek, a cheerleader or in the glee club? Join us on October 9, 2010 as we celebrate the musical hits from the ’50s to the ’90s for an all-night extravaganza that we like to call Déjà Vu. Located at the world-famous Bahia Mar Beach Resort and produced by Sixth Star Entertainment, Déjà Vu is the party of the year you won’t want to miss.

This year’s honorees include:
• Nat Moore of the Miami Dolphins
• Bill Fauerbach of Publix Super Markets, Inc.
• Tom & Ginny Miller of Miller Construction

Déjà Vu is a retro, costumed, all-night celebration honoring South Florida’s finest child advocates. The event is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County’s single-largest fundraising event of the year. Our signature event is held at the Bahia Mar Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale and runs from 6:00pm to midnight. The event’s festivities include the dynamic sights and sounds of the 1950s-1980s, cocktails, silent auction, dinner and dancing. All night long (and well into the morning), 400-500 guests experience non-stop entertainment and surprises in the form of musical acts, large scale dance productions and the always-anticipated, top-secret, live headline performer. Previous years have seen the likes of Tom Jones, Madonna & Tina Turner doubles and an American Idol finalist. For more information, visit BBBS Deja Vu.

The purpose of the night is to celebrate 36 years of mentoring success in South Florida through Big Brothers Big Sisters. All of the funds raised that night go directly toward providing the transformational power of mentorship to the children currently in our programs and to help expand the mentoring experience to the hundreds of children still on the waiting list for a Big Brother or Big Sister.
