The Pantry of Broward’s DWTS of Broward Event Raises a record $91,200 to Help Seniors in Need

The Pantry of Broward Dancing with the Stars of Broward marked its fifth anniversary this month by raising a record $91,200 to help provide food and support services to seniors on low, fixed incomes and grandparents raising their grandchildren. The Pantry of Broward and The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL presented the glamorous event in the hotel’s ballroom, with hundreds of guests cheering for their favorite dance pair. QuinnProQuo was proud to partner with Smith & Knibbs PR to create the media strategies and social media campaign. Check out their Facebook page for photos and more! Centerpeices

Competition was intense, as five community leaders and their professional dance partners performed in the event modeled after the popular national TV show.  After weeks of tough training, each pair wowed the crowd with two high-energy dance routines. To win, the pairs had to dazzle the judges and audience — and have a strong showing in raising funds for the event.

Fort Lauderdale Country Club’s Kathy O’Brien and her dance partner Pablo Malco sizzled in disco and tango routines, showcasing precision and style to win the 2013 Dancing with the Stars of Broward championship trophy.  Coming in a close second were Alyssa Lovitt of Timpano Italian Chophouse and her dance partner Bryant Williams.

This year’s celebrity competitors also included Chef Lee Blakley of Wines for Humanity, John Mabry of AutoNation and Luke Moorman of Carroll’s Jewelers. Co-chairs were Gale Butler of AutoNation and Jen Klaassens of The Wasie Foundation, who was a 2011 Dancing with the Stars of Broward contestant and a judge in 2012.  Judges offering commentary on the routines were 2012 champion Susan Renneisen of The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Alex Matar, her professional dance partner from last year’s event, as well as 2012 Dancing with the Stars of Broward celebrity dancers Laurina Anderson, Johnny Williams and Katrina Wright.

“This year’s dancers, their fans and our wonderful sponsors all stepped up to make the event greater than ever,” said Penny Loughan, executive director of The Pantry of Broward.  “The funds raised are vital to our mission of nourishing and assisting seniors who are struggling to get by and, in many cases, coping with the challenges of raising their grandchildren.”

The Celebrity Dancers

In addition to presenting sponsor the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, major sponsors included Publix, AutoNation and The Wasie Foundation.  Pernod Ricard USA and Wines For Humanity provided significant support, and other sponsors included BB&T, Bimini Boat Yard, BNETGraphics, Carroll’s Jewelers, Flowers & Found Objects, FastPrintz Oakland Park, Fort Lauderdale Country Club, Miller Construction Company, Postal Centers International, QuinnProQuo, Smith & Knibbs Public Relations, Spector Law Offices, Timpano Italian Chophouse, and Eye on South Florida.

As many of you might be aware, October was National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Now that the month is over and many of us move on to prepare for the Holidays, We fear that when stores put away the pink and the calendar page gets turned, the issue will just become another seasonal thing that is forgotten about until next year. We’re reminded that for those who are living with Breast Cancer, the fight is far from over. They need our subtle support through the year. Many people really don’t know what to do or say when someone close to them becomes sick. People want to send a special gift that is really needed, but sometimes it’s a bit difficult to know what to buy for them. Give or wear this necklace through out the year…not just in the Month of October ~ it doesn’t scream they have cancer, but instead says subtly, I want to be there with you, 143, I love you.

Creation: Glam-A-THON™ Social Media

QuinnProQuo is proud to support the Glam-A-THON™ as their Director of Social Media. For the past few years we have donated our services to create and develop social media strategies, enhance marketing plans and generate connections for this new 501c3 organization. In 2010, Glam-A-THON™ raised over $100,000 to support breast cancer research with 24 fab teams! This year, celebrating five years, our goal is to surpass these achievements and  strengthen our community partnerships.  In addition to this, QPQ is co-hosting the new Glam-A-THON™ Tiki Chic-y Poolside After Dark with the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six. Fabulous!

QuinnProQuo goes PINK to support Glam-A-THON™

It was six years ago this month that my family found out that my mother was diagnosed with inoperable ovarian cancer.  Until you hear those words, you cannot comprehend what it means. Everything is thrown at you at once. Statistics, decisions, vague answers and empathy.  I can look back now and try to make sense of it, but within six weeks my mother lost her fight.

Armed with a new passion & understanding, I have joined with Glam-A-THON™ creator Tammy Gail to support her organization. QuinnProQuo is proud to donate our social media and strategic planning services as we strut our stuff in October to “Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye”.

Please visit our Sole Sisters Team facebook page for all our fun-raising efforts as we get ready to strap on our pink stilettos and vie for the crown. We are the 3x reigning champions, and Queen Lee Sheffield (2008) and Ginny Fujino are prepping our team. Join us, we promise great networking and a fab time: Glam Registration Flyer-Sole Sisters

Sincerest thanks to QPQ’s partners who have stepped up to support us, your donations will make a difference!

Glam-A-THON™ Kick-Off Sole Sisters Soirée was a Smashing Success!

The Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty Six & the Fort Lauderdale Sole Sisters with event chairs Renée Korbel Quinn & Lisa Scott-Founds welcomed the Pink Heals Tour for one of several amazing parties during the Glam-A-THON™ kick-off on September 21, 2010.

Over 100 guests mingled under the portico while enjoying pink lemonade spritzers and learning about our cause while breast cancer survivors signed the pink fire truck. Next, guests rode the glass elevator to the rotating Pier Top and were greeted by pretty-in-pink Carolin Mueller & Kelly Gazo. A $10 suggested donation included splits of Korbel Brut Rose (with a pink straw of course!), a selection of Martinis, Margaritas & Wine from our Sole Sister’s Beverage Station with delicious passed appetizers and mini pink cupcakes!  Our Sole men enjoyed their own “den” that included craft beers, Crown Royal, Dewar’s White Label and Glenfiddich 18 year Scotch Whisky.

Rotating Pier Top, Sole Sisters and guests grooved to the beat of DJ Angelo, perused the amazing Auction…and the highlight of the evening was the Fab Shoe Party with Hot Pink Style (over 25 pairs of shoes sold!!!). Our Sole Men voted on The Most Luscious Lips in Lauderdale Contest, and the winner will be announced soon!  We raised over $3000 for our Team while celebrating all things Glam-A-THON™! Funds raised benefit the Sole Sisters TEAM efforts.

Special thanks from your Divalicious Chairs:

Connection Update: Blacktie-Southflorida.com

Ginny Fujino AKA Blacktie Southflorida.com is a tremendous asset to our South Florida community.  I have known Ginny for several years and she has supported many of my charitable initiatives & several of my board commitments (Riverwalk Trust, Winterfest, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County & Glam-A-THON). I highly recommend her myriad of services to large and small organizations...Blacktie Southflorida.com provides a new dimension to fundraising initiatives and support for non profit organizations. The Blacktie Southflorida.com calendar is THE calendar to refer to when planning events, and I use the nonprofit directory to research organization mission statements and track records. QuinnProQuo is proud to support her Boot Camp series and look forward to being a social media partner.
