Riverwalk Trust’s Urban Market

Join us at Esplanade Park on the New River

One of the initiatives Riverwalk Trust undertook during their Transition was an Annual Event Permit. I am proud to share credit for this “first ever” annual permit with Genia Duncan Ellis and Courtney Crush, who conceived, planned, prodded, pushed and promoted the Trust through this new partnership with the City of Fort Lauderdale.

Riverwalk Trust received permission from the Fort Lauderdale City Commission to launch a pilot program that will bring year-round activity and events to our downtown along the Riverwalk Park.  They will execute an annual event agreement with the City, rather than approaching the City Commission with each individual event in Riverwalk Park.  It is an “umbrella” approach —  providing a new way to plan, activate and manage annual programs in the public right-of-way and on City land.

EVERY SATURDAY, beginning April 24 from 8am to 1pmRiverwalk Trust will sponsor an Urban Market on Saturdays at Esplanade Park along the New River from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market will feature fruit and vegetables, baked items, seafood, cheeses, pottery and other goodies. The goal for providing the market is to activate the Riverwalk and to provide a service to the downtown and surrounding neighborhood residents.

Many unique and unusual products will be available at the market, including organic produce, an heirloom tomato producer, seafood vendor, organic soaps, spices, sauces, pastries, specialty fruit drinks, specialty coffee vendors, organic granola, jams, jellies, olive oils and spices, olive mixes, pastas, pasta sauces, mozzarella and oils, breads, doughnut muffins and special coffee, orchids, herbs, Peruvian food, guacamole and organic healing herbs.
